BNA Flight Paths according to the FAA

The Crieve Hall Neighborhood Association (CHNA) continues to advocate for relief from the extremely loud and frequent flight noise affecting our community. This is also impacting nearby neighborhoods including Caldwell Abbey Hall, Whispering Hills, Oak Hill, Aberdeen Woods, and other areas.

Thanks to the efforts of Rep. Caleb Hemmer and Sen. Heidi Campbell, conversations are underway with BNA and the FAA about:

  • The decision-making process behind the changes

  • The level of community engagement before implementation

  • Actions that can be taken to influence future changes

Key Facts

1. Why the Change Happened

This change was made due to increased air traffic in and out of BNA.

2. What Changed

The runway sending planes over our neighborhoods used to have one departure heading (220). It now has four. The 220 and 250 headings appear to have the greatest affect on our area. See image above.

3. Community Engagement Concerns

While we were told there would be community engagement during testing, we are investigating if the appropriate community engagement took place. Notification was limited to federal officials and a single post on BNA’s website and local officials, neighborhoods, and prior complainants were not directly informed. The new headings became permanent this spring with little to no engagement or communication.

4. Path Forward

Change is possible, but it will take a coordinated and sustained advocacy effort.

5. CHNA’s Role

We are developing an advocacy plan and reaching out to leaders in other impacted neighborhoods.

6. Current Stage

This is the early phase - more updates and action steps are coming soon.

7. What You Can Do Now

File official noise complaints with the FAA and BNA. It is especially important that they hear from a variety of people impacted. The more unique voices, the greater the impact.

Stay Engaged

  • Watch for CHNA updates and action alerts.

  • Email info@crievehallassociation.com if you would like to support this effort.

  • Keep speaking up - your complaints are an essential part of the process. Contact the FAA and BNA if you are impacted. You can also contact our federal delegation:
